40+ VC Questions for AI × Crypto Startups

The questions VCs ask AI agents, DePIN, and crypto infrastructure founders. Prepare before your first meeting.

How to use this:

  • Founders: prepare written answers to all of these before your first meeting. If you can't answer one, that's a gap to fix before pitching.
  • VCs: use as a structured interview framework. The quality of answers reveals founder depth more than the deck.

Category 1: Team & founder fit

  1. Why are you the team to solve this problem? What insight do you have that others don't?
  2. Walk me through your co-founder story. How did you meet? What's the equity split and why?
  3. What's the hardest thing you've built before? What happened to it?
  4. If this doesn't work, what's the most likely reason it fails — and what are you doing about it?
  5. Who on your team has done this before? At what scale?
  6. What's a significant mistake you made in a previous venture? What did you learn?
  7. Who is NOT on your team that you need in the next 12 months?
  8. What happens if your CTO/CPO leaves tomorrow?

What VCs want: self-awareness, complementary skills, realistic assessment of gaps, founder-market fit.

The hardest questions

VCs ask these to see how founders think under pressure:

  1. "Your biggest competitor just raised $50M from Paradigm. What do you do?"
  2. "You're 6 months from running out of money: raise a down round at 50% discount, or sell to a strategic for 2x your last valuation. Which, and why?"
  3. "If you couldn't raise this round, what would you do to make this work anyway?"
  4. "What's the one thing you're most uncertain about in this business right now?"
